The Plague Empty
PostSubject: The Plague   The Plague EmptyWed Mar 31, 2010 6:54 pm

Philadelphia - 1793

Mid-Summer

It was the year that Yellow Fever had found it’s way to Northern America. Refugees from the Caribbean had made there way over, bringing with them a small plague. But, that’s not all that they brought with them.

Cargo on the ships that docked in Philadelphia, contained another source of a “plague“. As for the fever that broke out, it all started with the cargo. What made it worse, was that there was already a water shortage in the wells and streams. That’s what made it easy for the mosquitoes to breed. They held the Yellow Fever, carrying it to people through their bites, and those people carried it to others. While this was going on, a new being had presented itself in the form of death. People were dying off left and right, doctors had no idea what it was that was taking their lives, so they blamed it on the fever. But, not all of them were dying from the Yellow Fever… As residents decided to flee for safety from the spreading plague, the new creatures took initiative and attacked those who were not infected with Yellow Fever.

The body count grew, and these creatures became bored with their feeding frenzy as the number of victims to feed from dropped. They practically wiped out the whole city. Vampires.. But little did they know, some of those vampires became careless in their hunt, leaving survivors and stragglers behind once they fled the city. Due to the ignorance of those who dwelled in the city, vampires were not what came to mind in the end result.

Those who were left behind, those who survived the attacks…
Now have become the monsters..

*Now, this RP does not require a character sheet only because you're starting out as humans. There really isn't much to tell except for the first and last name of your character, a common name if you will, just any name in general. For the most part, though. Everyone should start off in different areas, and meet up somewhere eventually.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyWed Mar 31, 2010 6:55 pm

Everything fell silent. No more yelling, no more screams. William laid in the sand underneath the docks, the warm water splashing against the side of his face as it moved up onto the shore. He slowly opened his eyes, blinking a few times to get rid of the blur before he rolled onto his stomach, more so into the water. He brought one hand up to the side of his head, having a splitting headache, along with chills that ran up his spine every time he moved. Everything felt sore and stiff, almost like someone body slammed him into a concrete wall. He tried to shake the feeling, and finally sat up to take a look around.

With a soft grunt he managed to get to his feet, nearly falling over from a new found pain in his stomach. Both arms wrapped around his waist as he leaned forward. This couldn't be good...He stumbled a moment before looking for a way to get back up. With a sigh, he began to walk along the water until the docks had ended. Then he crawled up a small hill, taking a better look of his surroundings. He knew where he was, and knew where he needed to go.
"It's way too quiet..."he mumbled as he moved towards the civilization. There was no one out, not a single soul.

First, it started with a fever that spread though out the town.. then something greater. The last thing that he could remember was running. Trying to make it for a boat. He brought his hand back up to his head again, the pain seemed to get worse. Once he reached the road, he dropped to his hands and knees, coughing harshly. He could taste the blood that came with it, then immediately passed back out.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyWed Mar 31, 2010 7:08 pm

Elizabeth was crawling along the ground rapidly, choked screams emitting from her throat, pants, then another failed attempt to scream. Her creamy cotten dress was stained in deep red patches, torn in many places. More of the crimson liquid was flowing rapidly from her jugular. "Help!" She tried to call out, but just like her screams, it was only a strangled, undicipherable noise. Her dark brown eyes were scared, and wet, tears mixing with the blood from her throat. A foot pressed into the middle of her shoulder blades. Something struck her on the head, and just as her lids shuddered and slipped, she saw the figure, his sharp teeth visable as he lowered his mouth to her bleeding neck.

Elizabeth awoke with a start, her nightmare had been so vivid, as if she were reliving it again. Her right hand came to clutch her chest, sobs ripping through her body. She tried to move her feet but it felt as if her legs had been removed, at the thought, she wrentched her head up ferociously, her sight spinning in protest. Only once she saw that legs were splayed beside her, attached to her waist, did she calm down and place her head against the ground once more. Her vision was hazed by a salty liquid, too weak to force herself to see properly, she just closed her eyes.
"What happened?" She croaked to herself.

The screams returned, he was running again. Something about a monster, cries for help, blood, and a lot of pain. His body nearly convulsed as he laid there in the middle of the road. Finally, he had opened his eyes again to see nothing but the pavement that he laid on. Blood trickled out of his mouth and onto the pavement as he slowly sat up. It was so bright earlier when he had woken out near the docks, but now the sun was going down. His body trembled as he managed to get to his feet once more, looking down the road in both directions as if someone was out there. But once again, nothing.

He let out a sigh as he lowered his head, taking note of his attire. His gray slacks were torn, dirty, wet and covered with what looked like dried up blood. Then he noticed his hands as well, lifting them slowly to get a better look, those too, were stained with blood and dirt. His jaw gaped open slightly as he looked himself over once more. Terrified as to what happened to him, he tried to remember. But nothing was coming to mind. On that note, he took off running towards home. No longer feeling sore, no longer feeling the pain he felt earlier. Something wasn't right, and it scared him to death.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyWed Mar 31, 2010 8:33 pm

Zack crouched low to the rooftop of the 17th Century Victorian house as he watched his right hand clutching the hilt of his longsword as he waited. He was an expert swords man and thus far it had been enough to keep him alive. Since the outbreak of the plague and the coming of the monsters he had used it far more often then he liked, but he had became quite skilled at killing them so he decided to hunt them down and get revenge for his family.

He tensed up slightly as a dark shadowy figure made its way down the alley way below him. He slowly reached for the hand crossbow on his left hip and quietly drew it. Taking careful aim in the dim moonlight he slowly pulled the trigger and with a small click a black and sliver dart launched from the crossbow and struck the creature in the shoulder as it made a hasty attempt to dodge the unknown projectile. As the creature released a loud shriek of pain he realized had missed and quickly drew the longsword while grabbing a rope and sliding down to the ground to face the monster.

It snarled revealing its bright white fangs and its eyes glew bright as fire under the dark hood that covered its face. Zack glared at the creature as he took up his fighting stance and calmly spoke, "If you think you can kill come and try." The creature understood his words clearly and launched an assualt on him. He quickly side stepped and fired another bolt into the creatures other shoulder soon it too would be immobilized by the poison on each bolt. The creature shrieked as it pierced its shoulder. Zack quickly fired another bolt into the creature's right thigh. As the bolt struck it let loose another shriek. Realizing it had tried to bite off more then it could chew it tried to retreat, but to no avail as its leg had already been paralyzed by the poison and it toppled to the ground.

Zack approached the creature with his longsword prepared to strike at any moment. As he hovered over the creature it looked up at him seeing his light blue eyes glistening in the dim light and hissed at him. "You will die with everyone else." A smirk crossed Zack's face as he spoke, "Perhaps, but not tonight. Tonight you die monster." In one quick and fluid movement he decapitated the creature and walked off into the night while sheathing his sword.

PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyThu Apr 01, 2010 12:01 pm

She would not lose her children. She would not lose her children. Margaret kept repeating these words like a charm, feeling that if she could only stay focused, they would come true. She would not lose her children. No time to think or even feel, the only reality for Margaret was this dark, damp room. She had no idea whether it was day or night, the wooden shutters in front of the two windows had been closed for a while and Margaret did not bother anymore to open them. She wiped the forehead of her youngest gently with a damp cloth, to cool her little Emily and hopefully bring some relief. The four year old was tossing restlessly with the fever, sometimes crying out. It had been a long time since she had opened her eyes last. But she would again. She would not lose her children.

With a start Margaret noticed the cloth was stained with old sweat. She looked around but saw no clean one. And only one bucket of water left. Where was Christopher? Hadn't he gone to bring her some water from the shared well down the street? But when? Had he left them too? Her Nathan had been the first to go and not come back and Margaret had become increasingly worried as she heard screams in the night. She could not leave her children to look for him, he would have to look after himself. And perhaps he had not wanted to come back to his sick children and anxious wife. Margaret could not feel any loss or regret, not with the possibility of losing her children as well. No. She would not lose her children. Crouching over to the other side of the wide bed -that once, seemingly ages ago, she had shared with her husband- she bent over Anna. Anna had been very quiet for a while now. It had to mean she was starting to get better. It just had to. She would not lose her children. Feeling Anna's forehead, Margaret noticed Anna had cooled down and seemed to be sleeping peacefully now. Margaret drew up the blankets a little and caressed her precious girl. Anna did look a lot like her, with her ash-blond hear, now damp with sweat, her sweat, slightly upturned nose and her dimpled chin. She would grow up to be the mirror image of her mother. Margaret soflty hummed a lullabye as she refilled the glass on the bedstand, hoping her daughter would wake up and drink. She would not lose her children.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyThu Apr 01, 2010 1:24 pm

Raymond bolted out the door of his house. He couldn't take it anymore. That cramped, overfilled house was filled with the thick, stuffy air of death. Everywhere he turned his parents, 4 siblings, an uncle and 2 cousins, carried an infection. All of them had contracted the Fever. All but him. It seemed as if he was all but immune to it, but he wasn't going to risk it. Two reasons as to why he had volunteered to get food. One, he knew he needed to take care of his family. Two, he stood a lesser risk of being contaminated out here than being slammed between his ill relatives. His lithe, 15-year-old form dashed throughout the streets of Philadelphia, sprinting towards the center of town, the marketplace. He expected the main plaza to be packed with people, sick and healthy, gathering supplies to care for loved ones. But, it wasn't. It was the exact opposite. It was deserted. Nothing, nobody. Not even the shopkeepers were present. In fact, it looked like it hadn't been walked through in 100 years. But that was a silly thought. Raymond had been here numerous times. And yet, it seemed so very new to him, dusty, lifeless. The sun was going down, the dark falling over Philadelphia like a blanket. Suddenly, his ears caught something, a faint scraping noise, like someone was dragging a rusty nail across a chalk bored. As the sound traveled to his ears, a vigorous shiver shot up his spine. And then he saw it. Eyes. Red as blood, glittering rubies in the unnaturally dark night. Whatever owned those eyes growled, then lunged right at him!

The creature was disgusting. It reeked of death, some poor victims blood was smeared all over its face, sanguine liquid dripping from its teeth and chin, staining Raymond's face. At first glance, it looked human, but at this range it was quite apparent of its demonic nature. The stalker of the night was donned in torn rags, the only thing covering its lower half being a large torn piece of cloth. The creature's skin was ghostly white with sunken in eyes, and what would normally be the whites of a humans eyes were an ebony, red eyes glittering with an insatiable hunger. Raymond had been knocked down by it, and was now pinned down, the hell-born beast's tongue sliding over his neck, as if tasting him, snapping at him with its large ivory fangs.

"What the hell is this thing!?" He shouted in frustration and fear. The monster of darkness had a strength and speed that couldn't be matched by any human. He scrabbled with his single free hand, trying to find an object to use as a weapon. It was very difficult to see in the darkness, but after blindly searching, he chanced upon a steel bar, the tip broken and jagged. He could tell by the way it scraped against the stone ground. He rose it up to beat off his assailant with the bar, but not before it bit hard and fiercely into the side of his neck, a squelching sound arising from it feasting on his blood. He cried out in pain, feeling the hot, viscous fluid of his blood against his neck. He beat the creature over the head with his improvised weapon. It snarled angrily and leapt back off Raymond, giving him the chance to get back up.

His vision was blurry as he got back to his feet and he clutched the bitten area of his neck with one hand and held onto the bar with his other. The inhuman "thing" threw itself at him once more. More by luck rather than skill, Raymond thrusting the jagged end of the steel rod blindly, managed to impale it. The creature howled in agony, spasmed, then went limp. He threw the rod and now dead creature away anxiously. He began to make his way back home, panting heavily, still holding his neck, pressuring it to stem the flow of blood. "What was that?" He muttered to himself. It looked like his family would be hungry tonight. He was vaguely aware of a tingling feeling stirring inside of him....

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptySat Apr 03, 2010 1:46 am

The silence... It wrapped around him like a blanket as he sat there, his knees drawn up to his chest. His eyes stared unblinking as they gazed sightlessly at a place he once considered safe. His small room, with his few possesions was his stronghold, his domain, his empire! But no longer. It came with the darkness, as the last few meager rays of light fled the sky. It came, carrying the metallic tang of dried blood, the rasping breath of something not human...
He laid quietly on his bed staring up at the ceiling as he waited for sleep to claim his weary mind. His daughter, Louise, slept soundley a few doors down. The thoughts that occupied a near asleep man varied, from what he would wear tomorrow for work, if they needed to shop for anything. These small rituals that reminded him of an ordinary life had been with him since his wife had died years ago. Even then she had been so full of energy, always cleaning or bustling about the house tending to this an that. His mind took a different course as he brought to mind her pleasent form. Her body laid before him on his bed, her eye sockets empty except for the tattered remains of the occular nerve smeared with mud. The lips that had once brushed against his own in tender embrace hung limp on her face, the remains of her tounge were bloated and decaying, hanging limply in the corner of her mouth. A fierce tingle ran down his spine as he moaned quietly in his sleep, his face a mask of terror and sadness.
The corpse smiled up at him with broken teeth, each blackend and bent. It's hand ran up and down it's side as if trying to seduce him with it's grotesque visage. Where the hand slid, maggot eaten flesh was revealed, patches of pale bone, grey with age peeked up at him, mocking him. Even now he could barely control his urge to run, flee, anything to get this mockery of the one person he held close to him far away as possible. But he stood there, rooted to the spot as his mind twisted his dreams this way and that. The corpse withered on his bed, it's body twisting like a fish. Any relation he once had seen to his late wife was gone, before him flopped a sagging pile of decaying flesh and bones that once resembled a living person.
Slowly it ceased it's movement, laying still. His hands had slowly clenched themselves into sweaty fists as he took in the scene before him. Tears, salty and genuine slid down his high cheeks to drip from his chin and plummet to the hardwood floor, each once resounding like a gunshot in the now silent room. The corpse twisted it's head towards him, a series of hollow cracks startling him out of his stupor. He stared at the creature with unbridled rage, something that reverted his face to something less human. His lips drew back in a snarl as the veins pulsed at the side of his head, the muscles of his neck were thick chords that bulged at he fought to contain his fury as it welled up. The mockery this... Thing! Was creating of his wife had struck a nerve, some primitive emotions long dormant in his body. He wanted to lunge at it, rip and tear every inch he could get his hands on, blow after blow would rain down on it's disgusting features before he would even consider stopping. His body tensed in preperation, his eyes narrowed to slits. With one explosive leap he launched himself forward, his hands outstretched to wrap around it's throat...
He twisted in his sleep as the dream wore on in his head, small noises escaping his lips in the form of low groans that went on and on. The sheets wrapped about him as he twisted violently in his sleep. On the verge of crying out in his sleep, a small voice ripped open the fabric of his dream bringing his corrupted mind to the surface. With a groggy shake of his head he cracked open his eyes. His body was coated in sweat, it matted his thick hair down on his head and left him in an uncomfortable tangle with the sheets, but his own feelings were pushed away as he saw the pale oval face of his daughter before him. He offered her a smile, sitting up in bed and patting a spot next to him.
She stared at him with her large brown eyes. So often he could look at her and see her smile, her eyes light up with childish wonder at some discovery. At 7 years old she had been raised well, she had been taught values and morales that most kids had yet to understand. Her lack of response disturbed him, more so since his recent dream.
"Honey... You okay?" He looked her over with a worried look in his eyes. A slight pause before she shook her head, pale blonde curls swirling around her face. He looked closely at her once more, even with the faint light from the moon that spilled in through his window he could barely make out her frame, small and frail against the pitch black... He leaned in closer, peering past her, his eyes seeking to peirce the shadows behind her.
"Baby girl, come to daddy. Please." his voice was tight with worry, something else was in the room with them. His mind screamed at him to snatch her up and run. But the swirling blackness seemed alive, pulsing with hate and frenzy. Louise took a few steps towards him, her small hand reaching out to grab the edge of his bed for support. Hurridly he reached out to snag her hand and help her, but something wasn't right. Her movements were jerky and erratic, moving with all the grace of a wounded animal cast in stone.
"Baby girl...?!" he gripped her small hand in his own, her skin was cold, no life beat within her veins. No soul had inhabited this corpse for hours. While he slept she had been taken, her small screams easily silenced. She had been a meal for the darkness that had inhabited his home, his sanctuary since early yesterday morning.
As he grabbed her hand, the darkness removed itself from her. The small girl collapsed at the foot of his bed with a hollow thump. Then it laughed... A chuckle that spiraled into a cackling roar. It cracked his already bent mind further than ever before plunging him into darkness that swallowed his mind once more in it's cold embrace.
There he woke, the first rays of morning light casting it's warm glow on his daughters pallid corpse. He crawled out of bed, along the floor. His hands pulling her to his lap as he curled up with the last thing on this planet that gave him a meaning for life. He sat like that through the day, the sun baking the room as the body grew stiff in his hands. Even as the sun began it's lazily spiral under the horizon he sat like that, his face wiped clean of all emotions. With the most subtle of breezes did the metallic tang of blood reach his senses as the light fled...

He had stopped running shortly after he reached the small town. He didn't even feel tired from the run, much less out of breath from it. He shook his head, not bothering to think anymore on it. Just as it was down by the docks, it seemed like such a ghost town here as well. He searched for someone, anyone, but no one was in sight. He couldn't hear a thing except for the slight breeze. There were no dogs barking, cats fighting, or children out playing around the buildings. It made him worry more. His family had been long gone for a few years now. He stayed behind to help his uncle at the docks when the cargo ships would pull in. But then his uncle had become ill with the yellow fever...

It was getting darker each second as the sun went down. He kept moving on to find a place to hide. Hide. Yeah, he was slightly scared, thinking he was the only one left in town. What would he do? Where would he go? Was it possible, that what happened here, has happened in the neighboring areas? He brought his hand to his stomach, feeling a slight burning sensation within. He wouldn't let himself pass out again. He made his way to the nearest building, the small town library, and entered into the darkness.

Raymond staggered through the impossibly dark and deserted town. As he trudged along, he looked up. He was greeted by the sight of the stars, thousands of bright dots that lit up and decorated an ebony sky. Then all of the stars grew into long streaks as his vision blurred, accompanied by a slightly painful tingling in his gut and around his neck wound, which still bled profusely. He rubbed his eyes and the stars began to resume their usual orb like shape. A thought entered his mind and he quickened his pace.
What if whatever it was that attacked him went after his family? He couldn't allow that to happen. He sped up to a pained jog. After a few more minutes, he reached his abode. He threw the door open, panting as his head swiveled from side to side, searching for his family. There were no sounds of coughing or quiet talking. No sounds of movement. No spine-tingling or disgusting noise of wretching in the narrow bathroom. He lit a candle in the center of the room. The dim light revealed the shambled remains of the inside of his house. The three chairs that they had were in broken fragments of wood, strewn about the area. Cabinets were torn from their hinges and food from their meager supply was bitten into and tossed carelessly about. Raymond searched fruitlessly, finding nothing of his family. After rifling through a few drawers, he discovered a slightly torn piece of paper. Words had been hastily scrawled across it. It read, "Raymond, if you find this, we are gone already. We could hear them, watching us. They've been watching since you left. It's dangerous out there, if you haven't already found that out. We've left Philadelphia, heading towards Boston, Massachusetts. With luck, you'll be able to make it out and find us, without incident. Oh...," the next part was smeared and blotchy with tears, but he managed to make it out."....please, bury your uncle." Raymond swallowed and blinked hard. Uncle Stephen....dead? It couldn't be. He continued reading. "He chose to stay behind and buy us time, and hopefully be here when you came back. Please, stay alive."

Raymond clenched the piece of paper and stuffed it into his jacket pocket. He looked for Stephen's body. He soon found it, slumped in a corner, a large streak of blood stained down the wall and around his body on the floor. Two knives lay next to him, half covered in dark, murky blood. His chest had been stabbed into and his heart crushed. He found two bite marks on his uncle's neck, similar to his own. He moved to pick up the corpse, but stopped abruptly when he heard a low. malicious growl. He saw an eerily familiar pair of ruby eyes. It obviously wasn't the same that had attacked him previously, but another one of its "kind". He quickly picked up one of the knives his newly deceased relative had used and bolted out of the door before the creature could lunge at him. He felt bad about not being able to bury his uncle properly, but wasn't going to risk another lethal encounter with the demons of the night. He ran, not knowing where he was going, only knowing he had to escape. He felt his energy leave him as blood ran out of the wound in his neck. His grip was slipping on the kitchen knife, but he managed to keep hold of it. He found himself slowing and breathing raggedly as he reached the library. It too, was abandoned, as far as he knew. He finally collapsed right in the door way, his eyes tearing up, his stomach burning with a peculiar sensation. He looked into the pitch black entryway, and slowly faded into darkness...

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptySun Apr 04, 2010 9:36 am

Margaret woke up, not sure why she was on the hard, wooden floor. Had she fallen out of bed and not noticed? She looked up, straight in the grey eyes of her oldest daughter Anna. Anna! And she was awake! Everything came back instantly and Margaret scrambled up from the floor in a rush.
'Anna, baby, you're awake!' Margaret felt herself tear up with relief. She hugged her little girl tightly, crying softly. Letting loose she had to check, looking at Anna carefully. Anna looked pale, with dark shadows around her eyes, but she defenitely was awake. Margaret stroked her hair and with her other hand reached for the glass on the bedstand. It was empty. In wonder she looked at it. Had she filled it before she went to sleep? Or had she forgotten?
'I'm thirsty, mother,' Anna said with a croaking voice.
Margaret got up and walked around the bed, to where the only bucket with water was standing. She filled the glass again, and went back to Anna. Anna was laying down again and her eyes were closing. Margaret held the glass to her lips and gently held Anna's head to support her. Anna swallowed a few sips and then let it run across her chin. The poor thing must be exhausted from fighting her disease. But she had won. She was alive. Margaret put the glass back on the bedstand, ready for Anna when she woke up again. Then she went over to Emily. Sitting down carefully on Emily's side of the bed, Margaret felt her forehead for temperature. The skin was cold.

Everything seemed to come to a halt for a moment.

The skin was cold. As if she were watching someone else, Margaret checked for other lifesigns and found none. Absently she stroked her youngest daughter's hair, thinking that now at least the water would last them longer. Beyond that Margaret was empty. She picked up Emily's little body and walked to the door. Opening it with one elbow, Margaret pushed the door open with Emily's feet. She walked down the creaking stairs carefully, not much unlike the nights Emily had had a nightmare and wanted to stay up a little. Out of habit she nearly walked into the kitchen, than change her mind. The formal room they had used for receiving guests would be a better place. Margaret laid Emily gently down on the green velvet sofa. She arranged Emily's hair carefully and realised that the old night gown, stained with sweat and old sick, was no dress for Emily to wear leaving this world. In a haze Margaret went upstairs again, to the girls room. In the closet the girls had shared she found Emily's favorite dress, a light pink with some ruffles. Her princess dress.
Holding it close, Margaret felt her loss and heard herself screaming out her agony in one long, high pitched wail. She cried into the fabric. Emily would never dance in it again. Or steal apple pies from the kitchen. Or come running to her with scraped knees from falling. Margaret cried and when she couldn't cry anymore she sobbed. Emily was gone.

PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyMon Apr 05, 2010 6:29 pm

Shadows cascaded along the walls of his room, the smell of blood mingling uneasily with the stench of his daughter's corpse at his feet. Slowly he lifted his head, his eyes serching the growing shadows for the demon that he knew lurked there. He had resigned himself to his fate, just another meal for the creatures that saw the opportunity with the plague that had ravaged their town. Step by step the figure became more defined as it closed the gap between mortal and immortal, it's footsteps silent on the wooden floor. It's body was that of a human but it's very presence seemed to weigh heavily within the small room, it's feet bare, toenails long and yellow. It's legs came into view next, heavily muscled and well defined. There it stopped, it's bare torso bathed in the faint light of the waning moon. From it's hidden mouth issued a low growl, built up deep in it's chest to blanket his conscious with fear. How desperately he wanted to scramble out from under his daughter and run, sprint out his door into the cold night and flee screaming at the top of his lungs. But the fear that provoked these images in his head also rooted him to the spot, his limbs shaking, sweat dripping long trails down the side of his face to add to his already rank human smell.
The creature stood there for what seemed like hours, it's form spelling death for the pallid man at it's feet, his small whimpers music to it's ears. Enjoying the game he was playing with his prey, the creature took another step into the light, it's face finally coming into view. A carnival mask is what it first seemed to the man, so deeply etched with lines that it seemed almost comic, but the eyes that bore deeply into the man's own brought images of flames licking the charred corpses of Hell. Sweat poured freely from the man's body, soaking him for the second time in as many days as the mask attempted to grin, it's teeth a disgusting color of yellow except for the two seated nearly halfway in the back. Each canine was freakishly long, curved to a wickedly sharp point, almost glowing in the light that spilled through his dirty windows.
Faster than the human mind could comprehend the creature was kneeling by his side, it's gnarled hand roughly forcing his head to the side, exposing his soft throat. His last few moments of precious thought were caught up in the futility of it all, how easily this thing could have killed him, torn his body apart in seconds. He wept hot tears as the impossibly sharp fangs trailed across his skin, thin ribbons of blood oozing from the shallow cuts. Chills of disgust ran down his spine as the monsters tongue lapped up the crimson liquid, fetid saliva dripping from it's gapping maw to add to the disgusting reek of sweat and fear that accumulated in the few minutes that had transpired since it's appearance. A jagged pain arched through his body as it's fangs pierced his artery, the thick cloying smell of freshly spilled blood nearly gagging him as the monster consumed it in a series of throaty slurps. The world was fading, dimming at the corners as the creature consumed more and more of his blood. Then as suddenly as it began, it was over. With one last flick of the tongue the creature lapped up the last few meager drops as they seeped from the surprisingly small wound on his neck.
With the same speed it had shown before it vanished into the blackness that threatened to swallow the man. Slowly the world righted itself, as his hand came up to gently examine his sore neck. Two faint punctures on his neck marked the visit from the creature, the wounds already scabbed over. His aching body protested as he slumped to the floor, his breath coming in ragged gasps that sent pangs of burning hot pain through his chest. Sleep consumed him quicker than he thought possible, every limb felt as if they were floating away as his eyes shut tightly against the outside world.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyMon Apr 05, 2010 8:47 pm

Zack quickly slipped into a dark alleyway and circled back around the corpse of the dead creature. He knew others would come to the spot now that blood lay spilled on the cobblestone road. He quietly climb up and into a shadowy balcony there he waited patiently.

Minutes felt like hours as he sat in the shadows awaiting his prey. He knew that it was only a matter of time before they would come to investigate. After what felt like hours, but turned out only be twenty minutes or so they appeared. From the dark alleyways below four of the creatures crept out. All clothed in dark rags except for one who wore more civilized clothing. A pair of silk pants and a nice new shirt. Zack noticed he must have been someone of greater importance amongst the creature's society as the other three seemed to follow his lead. Or could he merely be stronger or older then the others. Zack thought to himself as he watched their every movement. It matter not though for they would all soon be dead.

He clenched the grips of the two hand crossbows as he waited for the opportune moment to strike. The leader of the three began to examine the corpse of the slain monster.

"It's still fresh. Whoever did this could not have gone far. Find them." he said as he rubbed of the monster's blood between his finger and thumb. The three let out a slight snarl and turned to begin their search.

They would not have to search far. Zack thought as he saw his moment to strike present its self. As the three turned their backs to the leader and began to walk away Zack to careful aim at the leader hoping to catch him off guard. Just as the three were about ten feet away Zack squeezed the triggers and two clicks broke the silence.

The bolts whizzed through the air towards the creature and seemed they would hit their target, but quicker then Zack's eyes could track the creature dodged and the bolts harmlessly bounced off the cobblestone road.

Before he knew what was going on Zack was thrown from the balcony to the road by the creature he had just tried to shoot. He managed to hold on to his left crossbow, but his right rolled several feet away from him as he hit the ground hard. Winded he tried to stand up and prepare to defend himself as the creatures surrounded him. He drew his longsword and clenched the grip of the crossbow tightly while taking short raspy breaths.

The leader looked him over before addressing him. "Are you the one who killed my kin?"

Zack smirked and replied, "So what if I am? It matters not for you too will soon join him in hell."

"So you are. You really think you can kill them let alone me."

"I've killed lots of your kind already and you four are no different...no exception. Just four more monsters I will slay. Nothing more and nothing less. All abominations to nature will meet my blade."

"Oh really. So we are abominations. You hear that my friends. I believe time for talking is over."

"Damn straight it is." Zack quickly replied while taking up a defensive position.

"Kill him."

The three creatures all lunged at Zack at once. He jumped forward and rolled dodging all three. As he recovered he turned and fired at bolt into the mass. A shrieked emitted from within as the bolt hit one of the creatures in the lower back. The three recovered and faced him with rage in their eyes. Zack stood smirking while waiting for them to attack again. One began to circle around him trying to draw his attention so the others could attack. Zack took this opportunity to appear off guard and draw them in. As he averted his eyes towards the one the other two lunged at him taking the bait perfectly. Zack quickly turned to face them side stepping one of them and thrusting the longsword into the others right chest. A shriek of pain filled the night as bright red blood poured from the wound staining his blade. He quickly withdrew the sword and took up his defensive stance again. The severely injured creature withdrew from the fight to tend to his wound which mattered little he would soon die from blood loss. The one he had shot was starting to feel the effects of the poison as he stumbled about. Thus leaving only one that could fight to its full potential. It slowly circled him looking for an opening. Noticing none it foolishly launched itself at him. Zack merely fired at bolt at its chest and dodged the assualt. The bolt struck the creature square in the chest. It was only a matter of time now before its heart shut down and Zack knew this. He stood smiling waiting for the creature to realize what had just happened. In a matter of minutes the creature clenched its chest while gasping for air. It slowly fell to its knees before slumping over dead. Zack turned his attention to the partially paralyzed one and rushed it. It threw a half hearted punch at him which he dodged and quickly brought the longsword up cutting its arm off. It shrieked in pain as its arm fell to the ground. It clenched its bloody stub and glared at him. Zack merely smirked and brought the longsword in a sweeping movement across its stomach spilling its guts on the cobblestone. A pool of blood formed below the creature as it slumped on the ground trying to collect its intestines and other organs. Deciding to put the creature out of its misery Zack thrust the longsword into the creature's skull and through its brain. It died before he even withdrew the blade. He then turned to face the final abomination.

It looked at him both shocked and angered. Zack smirked and said, "What was that about not being able to kill them?"

"I see why you have avoided being killed by my kin and how you are capable of slaying us, but that all ends now for I will defeat you and drink every last drop of your blood."

"If you think you can come try." was all he said before the creature launched itself at him. He side stepped to what he believed to be a safe place, but the creature slammed into him. He slammed against the ground hard knocking the wind out of him. The creature launched its fangs at his throat. He barely managed to bring his arm up in time to prevent the creature from tearing his throat out. The monster then thrust its sharp clawed fingers into Zack's ribs. He yelled in agony as blood poured from the wound and the creature pulled its hand out before driving it in again deeper this time. Zack yelled louder this times as the pain was almost unbearable. He knew he had to do something and he had to do it fast. His sword arm was pinned to his chest holding the creature's head at bay that left only his crossbow. With his left side tore open by the creature simply moving his arm was painful, but he had no choice. He lifted his left arm and pointed the crossbow in the general direction of the creature. Realizing what he planned to do the creature quickly buried its fangs deep into his wrist. He yelled in agony as his left hand went limp and his crossbow fell to the ground, but this action had freed his sword arm. He quickly flipped the blade around and drove it through the creature's back and right lung as it feasted on his blood. It released his wrist and shrieked in pain as the blade pierced it. Zack withdrew the blade to allow the blood to flow freely and to stab it again. This time the creature moved to quickly for him to defend himself and before he knew it the monster had buried its fangs into his neck and began to feed. Realizing what was happening he dropped the sword and drew a dagger from his hip and stabbed it into the creature's throat, but it didn't let go. Zack pulled the blade out and slammed it into its skull burying the entire eight inch blade into its skull. In a matter of seconds the creature slumped on his chest dead its fangs still in his throat. He pulled away from the creature and rolled off him.

He had won, but had payed greatly to do so. He staggered to his feet and tore prices of his shirt off to make bandages. He dressed his wounds to the best of his ability before retrieving his weapons and staggering away from the scene. More would come he knew this and he had to get out of the area and quickly. Hopefully they would not notice his blood trail and follow him. His life depended on this.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyWed Apr 07, 2010 6:09 am

A loud scream was kicked from her with a hefty boot from the creature that had so callously feasted upon her, toying with his food. She'd rolled in and out of conscious as he fed from her, this was a recollection of her memories. Tears stained her cheeks, blood and salty water matted her once lush hair. The vile creature had torn her dress deliberately, leaving her exposed, and she was helpless. Over powered by this creatures unparalleled speed and strength. Loud cries from pain faded out as the dark departed.

Still unconscious, she lurched. Her body had rolled to the side in her forced slumber, legs bent at her knees and loosely tucked against her back, bare feet sliced thanks to the broken window. She'd been attacked in her own home. Passed out on the wooden floorboards in a small pool of her own blood, glittering shards of glass randomly sprinkled through her liquid. One hand, the fingers brushing her jawline, curled into a weak fist.
Then she awoke.
It was a powerful hunger that caused her to break the holds of unconsciousness, her body shot up at her hips to sit on her bottom in her blood. The first thing she noticed was her hair. A cry of surprise at the blood soaked gold parted her bloodied lips. A small hand reached down to brush her feet, glass fell to the ground... her feet were now unscathed. Noticing how her dress failed terribly at the job of keeping her body concealed to the eye, she tore the nightdress completely off. Standing now, she walked to the bathroom behind a portable wall, four boards of wood, elegantly carved and regal, to change behind. A tub was hidden behind this wall, water filled it. The maid had done her job.

Lowering her body into the cold water, she didn't notice that her body wasn't surprised by the freezing temperature, this water was old, not used of course, but sickly cold. Slipping underneath the water, she washed her hair and rid it of the dried blood that caked her locks, scrubbed her neck, and the rest of her body. Once clean, she stepped out of the tub and dried herself off. Selecting a blue dress of cotton with a darker blue sash of silk around the waist, she slipped into her corset.

"Darota!" She called, needing the corset adjusted. Nothing. Where was that slack maid? Elizabeth came from a wealthy family, this was their summer home, they'd come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a few months. Elizabeth loved it here, she was practically royalty to those who met her, something to be intimidated of. With still no answer from her maid, she pulled the strings as best she could, achieving the tightly pulled in waist and the tasteful amount of overflow in her cleavage, she ran her hands down the whale-bone ribs and nodded at her reflection, for a 17 year old girl, she was extraordinarily beautiful. Stepping into the dress, she pulled it up to her neckline, slipped her arms into the small sleeves and buttoned up the back, tightening the sash around her waist. By now her curls had dried and were once again the soft, golden ringlets that sat around her face in a pristine manner.

With some Victorian era heels, she descended the stair case, unaware of the carnage she'd been through, and the carnage outside her domain. Until she walked into the parlor and saw one of her sisters, slung over the arm of a sofa, petticoat lifted to her thighs, but more noticeably, her throat, completely ripped out! Elizabeth's hands came to cover her mouth as a scream tore from her lips, muffled beneath the flesh of her palms, her body bowed forwards at the discovery. She was stuck there on the spot. Nothing, no one was around. The twins, Maxine and Cody, three years of age, the same fate, curled together as if to protect themselves. She could see more bodies, of her butlers, maids, parents and older sister.
Liquid formed in a glistening line at her lower eye lids.
"No.." she breathed, it wasn't real. Cody began to twitch, his eyes looked up at her, pleading.

"Lil'bit," he whispered, "Lil'bit.. it hurt." Her welling tears slipping in tiny lines down the corner of her eyes listening to her only brother's plead. "Lil'bit. Make the hurt go." His eyes closed now, her face was a mask of utter pain. Nodding, the hunger from earlier overwhelmed her, she didn't know what she had to do to make the pain go, her instinct did. Stepping close, the tap of her heels on the marble floor louder then it should have been, sealed Cody's impending doom. Kneeling beside the twins, she took Cody's tiny frame into her arms. In pain filled whispers, she sang the lullaby her mother had sung to each of her children before she put them bed. Tears dripped from her cheeks and splashed onto her little brothers locks. Shallow breaths rasped in his throat, his head turned to the side, a clear opening to his main artery, without knowing what she was doing, her head leaned forwards, lips parted, newly acquired fangs dipped into the soft flesh of her brother. Finishing off the job his attacker had failed to do. Hugging Cody tightly, she kissed his cheek, leaving a bloody kiss mark.

"I'm sorry," she whispered to her now deceased brother. She had to leave, the walls of the great manor were closing in on her, constricting. Laying the body of her brother down beside Maxine, she stood, and without a second thought, she ran out of the parlor, out of the manor, away. Away from it all. She ran and ran holding the skirt of her dress, her ringlets bouncing around her face. She had to find someone, anyone! Someone who would hold her and allow her to cry. What on earth was happening here!?

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyThu Apr 08, 2010 7:10 pm

Upon his entry into the empty Library, William took a few minutes to collect himself. It was a short hallway into the opening of the
library itself. He stood there a moment, his eyes refusing to adjust to the darkness that overwhelmed him. It was so quiet, he could
hear the small cracks and groans from the old book shelves that were ten feet away from him. He took a few more steps in, reaching the front desk
and pressing his palm to the wood to hold himself up. He swallowed hard, the burning in his chest was becoming more of a nuisance.
He shook his head finding a way to ignore the pain and the burning before taking a few more steps, pushing away from the small wooden desk.
It was the book shelves that William was aiming for, trying to get to the backroom to lock himself in for the remainder of the night. Stepping between
two of the tall shelves, his ears picked up on what sounded like water dripping on the carpet, along with the faint sound of someone humming to
themselves. He froze in his tracks, shallow breaths slipped past his lips as he began to hear his own heart beat. The hair on the
back of his neck stood up as chills ran through his body. He wasn't alone.

William lowered his head, closing his eyes a moment to slow himself down. He didn't even notice that he had stopped breathing as his heart beat slowed.
Could someone else be hiding in here as well? Or.. was it someone.. or something that he didn't want to face? The thoughts clouded his mind as he
tried to think of an escape plan. He could run for the front doors, but what are the odds of him actually reaching them? Terrified.. he opened his eyes once
more before sucking in a breath.. a breath that didn't fill his lungs. His eyes widened as he slipped away from the shelf that he had been leaning on
without realization of it. Slowly he moved to the end of the shelves to peek around the corner in the direction of the sounds. Determined, he stared into
the darkness, only to see the dark shadow move around. The humming had stopped, but the dripping remained. William's jaw clenched tightly as he peered
into the dark at what lingered before him, his eyes quickly adjusting as the shadows seemed to fade. Whatever it was, quickly turned around to face him.
A loud shrilled scream filled the air and William quickly brought his hands up to cover his ears as he winced. That's when the figure bolted for the windows.
Jumping out only to leave shattered glass in it's wake. "Shit." the word passed William's lips before he too, bolted for an exit. Making his way back to the front
doors of the library, not wanting to stick around to see what the person had left behind. Everything became a blur then as he ran, dodging the shelves and the
small wooden desk before reaching the hallway.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyFri Apr 09, 2010 11:50 am

The sound of shattering glass brought Margaret back to herself. And again she heard the melodious tingling of glass breaking and falling on top of more glass. It seemed to come from the formal room. Emily! Margaret stood up quickly when a second name flashed through her thoughts. Anna! Her first concerns had to be for Anna, who was stil alive. She listened to a soft, scraping noise as someone was apparently trying to gain acces to their house.
Margaret wasn't sure of what to do now. She probably wasn't strong enough to defeat any burglar and there could be more than one. Why was her husband gone, why did she have to be alone in a time like this? Was God testing her by sending her this hardship whith no one there to help her? Margaret turned back to the wooden closet and carefully took out a clean dress for Anna and her old winter coat. She bundeled them up and used some hair ribbons to tie it to her apron. Next she tiptoed to the door, trying hard not to creak any of the wooden floorboards. She heard vague dragging sounds coming from downstairs.

Margaret said a quick prayer that she might have enough time before whoever was down there decided to come up and quietly, slowly, made her way to the maid's room. The maid had been the first to get sick, leaving for her family soon after she started showing signs of the fever. Not soon enough, Margaret thought, because her two girls had still fallen ill shortly after. The room was simple with all the bare necessities, a small bed with clean, crisp white linnens, a wooden chair in the corner and a small closet. And the ladder. Nathan had insisted they keep a ladder upstairs in case of fire and the only place for it had been the maids room. Taking the ladder of its metal hooks caused Margaret a heavy sigh but she caught herself before she could make more noise. She paused, held her breath and listened. She heard nothing.

Gently lowering the ladder Margaret kept listening to the silence. Was the person gone? She manouvered the ladder through the narrow door and turned it, just scraping the white plastered walls. She froze. Still no sounds. Ever so carefully she walked the distance to her room, where Anna still was. Closer to the stairs she did hear some soft, gurgling sounds. She could not imagine what made these sounds and did not attempt it. At the door, Margaret had to put her heavy weight down in order to free a hand to open it. The wood gave a light thud as it hit the floor and Margaret could feel her eyes tear up with anxiety. She could not afford to break down now. With one hand she grabbed the doorknob and pushed the door open ever so quiet. Why did quiet have to be slow as well? The damp, musty air from the room hit her, the smell of sick and old sweat. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the dark of the room.
'Mother?' she heard the light voice of Anna call out to her. And then everything seemed to happen at once.

A quick, pattering sounds from downstairs told her that the intruder had heard and was running to the stairs. Margaret took up the ladder, and with no more need for quiet, ran to the window and realized her mistake, The shutters were closed, had been for days. She could not get out. Still she tried, smashing the ladder through the glass windowpanes with all the strenght she posessed and against the wooden shutters. She drew the ladder back and tried again, feeling the shutters move, but failing to break through them. A glance back told her she was too late anyway. Someone had entered the room, a wiry, small dark man with red, glowing eyes was making his way to the bed. Margaret dropped the ladder and flung herself on the man. She would protect Anna! He took her arms with a strength she had not expected in such a small person and held them with an iron grip, pulling hre even closer to him. She fought, kicked and tried to bite him until she felt an excruciating pain around her neck. For a moment everything went black.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyFri Apr 09, 2010 6:37 pm

Raymond lay there, still as a statue, a motionless heap on the disgusting floors of the library entrance. He could smell nothing, for his nostrils had long been taken over by the foul and ever present stench of death and blood. He could taste nothing, for his tongue was dry and had taken on a slimy, metallic flavor. Nor could he feel or see anything. His body had become numb to sensation, other than the intense burning that had risen from his stomach and to his chest. His eyes were half closed with exhaustion and the world within his plain of sight was blurred and distorted. Hearing had abandoned him, the only sound reaching him was a mixture of noises. The sound of his weak, pounding heart and the large amounts of blood and adrenaline rushing through roared in his auditorial canals. The thought of giving up, just laying there to die had crossed his mind. Yes..how nice it would be. Anything would be better than this town, this burning feeling. Plagued by fever and demons. Anything to escape this hell. This is what the rational part of his brain told him. The part that he wanted to listen to, but the rest of his body seemed to ignore. Despite the physical strain his body was under, it seemed as if operating on autopilot, his arms pushing him off of the floor, feet carrying him further into the dark, dank library. He walked, separate from the world, blank and unfocused. The need to think was thrown away, as if his feet already knew where they were going. He walked in a slumped gait, shoulders sagging, hands hanging loosely at his sides. He had given up on stemming the blood flow from his neck. What was the point?

His breath was extremely loud and ragged, with dried lips and a parched throat. The burning had now made its way to his head. It felt as if his brain were on fire, and as if his entire head might explode. He shuffled for a few more yards before stopping, hearing a noise. The sound of running and a voice. Was someone else here? Another survivor perhaps? No, he couldn't think about that. He wouldn't let himself get his hopes up, only to have them crushed and smothered in despair. He continued on, stopping in the hallway as the sound of feet grew closer. His eyes widened as a figure slammed into him at a high speed, sending him sprawling to the floor with a loud thud and a groan.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyMon Apr 12, 2010 9:09 pm

Zack clutched his left side and supported himself woth his other arm as he staggered down the road using buildings for extra support. He was in excruciating pain and the loss made it difficult to maintain consciousness and even harder to walk, but he had to keep going if he stopped he would die for sure. He staggered down the road for nearly a mile before became aware he was being followed.

He tried to quicken his pace this increased the pain greatly, but he had to push on...had to make it home. He smiled a little as he came up to the city square...he was almost home. He suddenly stopped in the middle of the square at the sight he beheld. As every road leading out were glowing red eyes...he was surrounded and incapable of properly defending himself. This would be his last battle.

Letting go of his side he drew his sword and took up the best defensive stance he could. Then one of the creatures began to approach him. It was shorter and smaller built them the rest. Zack knew it had to be a female. How disgraceful he thought I'm going to be done in by a woman.

"Despite your severe wounds you still try to defend yourself. Tell me human why do you fight so hard?" He voice was young and beautiful.

Zack breathed heavily, "Because...it's the..." he coughed up several mouth fulls of blood before continuing, "right thing...to...do."

"From whose point-of-view? Yours or ours?"

"From those...who aren't...freaks."

"I'll take that as meaning yours. I wouldn't call us freaks, but...higher beings. Tell me why do you resist becoming a higher creature? Something better then you are."

Zack coughed up more blood, "Because I'm no...monster."

"So we are monsters. Do I look like a monster?" She walked into the moonlight revealing her incredible beauty. She was young with porcelain white skin and fine shoulder length brown hair. Her body was perfectly proportionate even down to her breast. She was absolutely gorgeous and Zack felt a little bad for calling her a monster.

He stabbed his sword into the ground to stabilize himself as it became harder to stand. "Despite your flawless beauty you are still a monster on the inside. You slaughter out friends and family. You show us no mercy. You strike fear into all of us and you take everything from us not giving a damn how much it hurts us."

She walked up to him and spoke in a soft friendly tone, "Not all of us are that way. The ones who are couldn't control their hunger and were driven mad by it. I am one who could control it and there are others like myself. We are slowly learning to influence and control our feral kin. Your spirit burns with compassion and love for your kind and your determination is unwavering. You would as soon die by that very blade then accept defeat at one of our kinds hand. When you face danger and even death you remain clam, you show no fear, and your determination and confidence burns like fire in your eyes. You are a true warrior, but you will soon die of blood loss. Your wounds are greater then you think." She touched his side and he winces in pain, "This stab wound had punctured your left lung." She grasped his wrist and he gasped as she applied pressure to the wound, "The cartilage has been severed and the veins have ruptured." She gently lowered his arm before touching his neck, "And the bite wound is deep and bleeding heavily." She lowered her hand to her lips and licked the blood off before continuing, "Your blood is amazing, but it won't last long. I am amazed you are even still standing. Your heart is too strong and your soul too pure to let you die. If you allow me to I can see to it that you survive, but because of the wound on your neck you will become one of us. I will only save you if you wish for me to. So human, do you want to live?" She looked into his darkening eyes as she asked the last question.

He stated back into her beautiful yet demonic burning red eye, "I want...to live, but...not as one of...your...kind. Is there nothing...that can be...done?"

She softly kissed him, "Nothing. It's death or become one of us."

Shocked by her actions he thought for several moments before replying, "I want to live...human or monster...I care not. Do whatever...is...necessary..." He fell forward unconscious only to be caught by the female.

She smiled at his decsion, "You have made a wise and the right choice, human." She licked some blood off his neck before picking him up and carrying him into the night.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptyTue Apr 13, 2010 4:16 pm

The whole time he was running away from what flee'd from him, there was no other noise, no heart beat. It felt as though his chest
had grown cold, nearly frozen along with the burning sensation. William wasn't paying much attention and at the last second... he
realized that there was someone in the way. He collided with the figure and nearly screamed. He was sure that his heart had stopped
completely in that instant. He was done for... there was no way of escape now. The person had been blocking his path to the front
doors of the library. "No!" he yelled as he lost his balance, slamming into the wall, creating a hole with his elbow and shoulder
before he made impact with the floor. Silence fell around him. There was no pain. William just laid there on his side, head resting on
the cool floor as he stared at what he assumed was the person from before. The one who jumped out the window in the back of the
library.

At that very moment.. he knew he was a goner.

How could some one so small be so strong? Or was it just that she was so weak? The man was holding Margaret down on the floor, his hands on her shoulders while laying half on top of her. He was licking the blood that was trickling from the wound in her neck. She had never even imagined a scene this repulsive. Margaret cried, she tried to struggle but already knew it did no good. Then she gave up. And prayed, like she had never prayed before that the man would have enough of whatever he was looking for with her. Let Anna be spared, let Anna be saved, let her only living child be safe and happy again. Anna had not made a noise since the man had entered and Margaret was grateful. Margaret could feel herself sinking in the blacness that had allured her a moment ago. She wanted to give in, if only not to be here anymore in this room. She wanted to feel nothing, see nothing, hear nothing and more than anything not to smell the scent of her own blood anymore.

Yet she struggled against the darkness as she had earlier struggled against the man. Feeling it was stronger than herself, but impossible to give up. For Anna. The man moved one hand from her shoulder to her head, turning it so he could reach her neck easier. With an exasperated cry she flung her knees up, feeling a thud as they hit the man somewhere near his side. He groaned and pulled back a little. Margaret used the little space he gave her to hit her head to his with as much power as she could. The man was dazed for a moment, giving Margaret the time to get up on her knees but as she started to crawl towards the door he grabbed her by her shoulders. Margaret reached out and held on to the doorpost. He was trying to pull her to him but she held on, screaming with the effort and pain it caused her. Suddenly his hands were gone. Quickly Margaret scrambled up, feeling a surge of dizzyness pass through her body. She had to hold on to the doorpost to steady herself but fell back immediately when the man flung himself at her. For a few moments they were stumbling across the small hallway and then there was an unexpected sense of freedom as they flew through the air, down the staiways. Margaret could feel herself hitting the wall, turning and falling. It all ended with a sickening crack.

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptySun Apr 18, 2010 6:43 am

She wouldn't stop running, she had to find something, anything, someone. The material of her heavy dress was held in one hand, the other, crooked at the elbow, pumped back and forth beside her. Her breathing was not heavy, which surprised her, she would have been falling over in weakness by now but no, she pushed on and on, not a single cell of her body protesting. Her shoes left but naught in the dirt, indicating how fast she was really going. With golden locks swishing in the whipping wind, she came closer to the town that the manor over looked; relief coursed through her at the sight of the village, finally some civilization.
But something was wrong.
Coming to a halt, she stood on the pavement beside a large building, looking up she noticed the sign that claimed it was a library, but something was all out of place. Sniffing, she detected a metallic smell, blood. There on the steps was a small pool of deep crimson liquid. Whatever, or whoever, had been bathing in that small pool had sauntered off into the library, did she intrude? Or continue on.
Her debate was cut short.

The sound of glass shattering pierced the silence, her head swiveled on its axis towards the sound, watching as some creature of the night leapt from the library window and onto the grass. But it didn't stop there. As the thing stood up, it caught sight of her, and it looked hideous. Face deformed, or horribly scarred beyond the point of recognition, its clothes.. were hardly clothes, gore splatted and reeking of old feasts. Her body bowed forwards and she clamped her hand over her mouth, fingers tightened around her skirts, a scream tore from her lips to be only slightly muffled beneath her hand. That godawful thing was advancing on her. In her haste, she skittered backwards and tripped over, well, nothing. Falling was horrible, like knowing what is going to happen, and knowing it will hurt, but you're still not ready for it. She didn't land on her rump, but her elbows, in attempt to avoid smacking her head on the road. Pain shot up her arms, causing another scream to rip from her plush lips before it was choked off, gurgling the only noise that now came from her as large and grotty hands clasped around her neck, her mouth gaped open like a fish, trying to suck in any measly breath she could snatch. But that was made impossible as thick thumbs pressed against her throat, more gurgling and choking. Really? It this how it was to end? After she survived whatever had happened to her, after she had been forced to kill her little brother, she would now be strangled by some... beast?

This realization spurred something in her, something persistent, she wouldn't let this creature end her like such, and with this thought, a knee slammed upwards, aimed right in between the wide spread legs, smashing against the golden spot. Her neck was freed and the thing rolled off of her, clutching its crotch, wailing and trashing about loudly. To hell with staying there!

Chest rising and falling beneath the tightly plucked bodice, she rushed into the library and shut the large doors, making well sure to heave down the wooden stopper with a loud thud that echoed through the building. With loud and heavy breaths, she turned and pressed her back to the door, sliding to the ground, one hand resting on her throat to assess the damage, lids slid shut as the adrenaline wore off and left her exhausted.

That was when she saw the two figures further inside the building.

"Dammit."

The Plague Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Plague   The Plague EmptySun Apr 18, 2010 7:35 pm

Raymond moaned softly, only the slightest bit of feeling reaching his mind. His hands slowly reached for the back of his head, pressing down as if it would stop the insane throbbing that shook his skull. The shock of slamming across the floor jarred him even more, compiling on the discomfort and pain of the now intense burning. He stood, but even that simple motion was too much of a task, pushing him to the limit. He fell to his knees, gasping for air as distorted sobs tore through his throat. He convulsed, a violent torrent of blood spewing from his mouth and bursting as it poured upon the floor with a disgusting splat. He choked for air, some of the blood clogging his airway, going back down his throat. He spluttered and coughed, the remainder joining the rest of the crimson mess he had made. Ceaseless beads of sweat dripped from him and covered his face in a bright sheen. The burning feeling had now transformed, his body now icy cold, the feeling of death. His head still burned intensely, magnified by the hit he had suffered from the impact with the floor. His world was spiraling out of control, in and out of focus. He was sure that if one were to die..this was how it felt. He knew it. He was dying and there was nothing to be done. He resigned himself to his fate, now indifferent to the inevitible end. He vaguely wondered who else was in here with him.

He looked up from the floor to the form that had sent him crashing earlier. The figure lay upon the floor as well, on its side, quiet. He crawled forward a few feet before stopping. He looked down at the figure, realizing it belonged to a male, judging by his build, though he couldn't see his face. He considered speaking to him, though stopped as he heard a noise. He blinked as he heard a voice, then froze as he saw another figure step into the hallway.

The Plague Empty

His mind was a blank canvas with each second that passed. Laying there in silence as he stared back at the other figure, which seemed to be in a lot of pain. It was too dark to see the person's face, but he was sure that he was in for it now. His eyes widened as, what sounded like a male, spat along the floor. The dark substance nearly pushing itself along the floor towards him. It made him flinch, pushing his back against the wall he had hit earlier from the collision. The smell.. one of which he had never encounter before, was almost revolting. He'd gag if he were able to, but the motion never came forth, seemed the burning in his chest was keeping him from it.
What was going on?

William sat up, keeping his back to the wall as the figure crawled forth. "Who are you?" he asked with a demanding tone as he lifted a hand up in defense incase the person felt it necessary to come any closer. He was terrified beyond belief now. Thinking that he was the only one left in the town, only to stumble... well.. slam against another. But before he could get a reply out of the being, another's voice was sound in the hall. His head quickly turned to see another shadowy figure standing there looking over the two of them. A female obviously, he could tell by the tone. But a new scent had filled his nose. His face scrunched up in a disgusted look before he turned
back to the one next to him. His knees bent up towards his chest as his feet pushed against the floor as if there was no wall behind him. Wanting to get away in fear that they would hurt him. But he couldn't get up on his feet even if he tried, his body felt too weak to do so. "What is going on?"

The Plague Empty

Evanna groaned softly. She lifted her head, or tried to at least. Something...Something had happened, but what? Her ice blue eyes blinked a few times, trying to focus. Her head throbbed. She wrapped her arms around her knees as she sat up. Taking in the forest around her, her eyes grew round.

"Where am I?" She whispered softly to the darkness.

Her head started to pound as a warm trickle slid down her nose. With on hand cradling her forehead, she used a tentative index finger to touch the crimson liquid trickling from her nasal cavity. That's when it all came back.

Fire! Fire! Oh my God. Jacob? Where are You? Evanna's mind raced as she ran through her and her younger brother's home. There were people outside, they weren't good people. Where's Jacob? She wanted to scream, but couldn't. They couldn't find Jacob, if they took her that would be okay. He could take care of himself, for the most part. She slammed into a wall as she tried to open the back door. It was boarded up from the out side. "Oh, Jacob!," She cried as the flames licked up the side of the walls, closing in on her. At least, he doesn't know..was the only comforting thought she could muster.

Evanna's eyes widened as the memory flowed back. She jumped to her feet and almost fell back down from the sudden head rush. I need to find my little brother. Her body sagged against a tree she used for support. In her mind she knew she couldn't make it very far, but she had to try. Something in the back of her head told her to start heading north, so she followed her instincts.

The Plague Empty

Elizabeth hugged her knees to her chest, concentrating on evening her breathing after she had been reassured that these two males were only like her. Disorientated, confused, and shit scared. She shook furiously in fright, every cell of her body burning with adrenaline from her previous encounter with that thing.
Her eyes were trained on the pair further inside the building, cautious and admittedly scared to crawl further into the small haven she had locked herself into. Granted the window was broken, anything could climb through there, but it was so high up and the glass was jutting from the pane, sure to dissect anything that tried to climb in or out. Slowly she allowed her eyes to wander around, looking for any other potential entry points.
Nothing.

She allowed her lids to fall, expelling a large breath in relief. Relaxing for a moment, enjoying the moment of peace. Suddenly the door she was resting against sprang into a rage, banging and shaking against the wooden stopper that she had slammed into its cradle before sliding to her rump. Snarls and growl were heard behind the door, obviously the thing she had kicked moments ago. Springing away from the door in fright, she rolled along the lobby floor of tiles and screamed for dear life as her eyes glued onto the door. Scared to look but terrified to look away.
